To Approve Submittal of the Rebuild Iowa Grant Proposal to Promote Energy Conservation and Green Building Principles in the City and Region

October 30, 2002

WHEREAS, Maharishi Vedic City has a desire to support energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy production for the City including the stated goal of achieving 100% renewable energy for the City within one year;

WHEREAS, the City plans to establish city utilities to offer renewable energy to its residents;

WHEREAS, Dr. Kent Boyum has over twenty eight years as an ecologist, professional business person , educator, and has taught over 1000 students courses in energy efficiency and the ecological effects of energy on the environment;

WHEREAS, Dr. Boyum has written a grant proposal to the Energy and Waste Management Bureau of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to propose Maharishi Vedic City to join the Iowa Rebuild Program joining other municipalities and counties in promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy resources;

WHEREAS, information gained by the City n the Rebuild Iowa program can also be used by other communities in the region and throughout Iowa to improve their energy efficiency;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF MAHARISHI VEDIC CITY that the City shall approve the submittal of the grant application the Energy and Waste Management Bureau of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to have the City join the Iowa Rebuild Program.
